This month’s free project management template is a Roles and Responsibilities document. It’s a formal way of setting out what each role is responsible for on a project team. I also include the names of the people holding the roles – not every Roles and Responsibilities template does this, but I think it’s valuable to know what each individual is supposed to be doing on the project. Otherwise it’s just an arbitary list that reads like a job advert.
Feel free to edit the document as much as you like to make it fit for purpose for your project team (or any other group that you need to define responsibilities for). You could add:
- Authority and sign off levels
- Budget associated with that role
- Staff members reporting to that role
- Qualifications required to do the role
- Core skills and compentencies required to do the role
But what you’ll get when you download the Word document is plenty good enough for most project environments.
Enter your email address below to download the Roles and Responsibilities template. You’ll have to edit it to take out my instructions and notes and put in your text, especially as you are highly likely to have more roles on the team than I’ve started to draft for you. I’ve done a big chunk of the work so that you are ready to roll, but I haven’t done all of it.
I don’t mind you using my free project management templates for your work purposes but please don’t sell them!
